After many years of indigenous civilizations including that of the Moche peoples, the small city of Zaña was founded in 1563 by Spanish conquistadores. The religious sanctuary is still one of the most important places to visit in the region, about 40 minutes by car from Chiclayo. Severe flooding in 1720 and did serious damage to the structures, but they were clearly well constructed and are still standing strong today.
It seemed easy to imagine what life may have been like in the past here in Peru while exploring these historical temples…
Beautiful!
Thanks, Heather! 🙂 Hope you are doing well!
